For Sinners Saved By Voodoo Queens is a spoken word album, my first project, a collection of poems celebrating my renewed dedication of practicing and expanding my art. All of the poems were written in Washington D.C.; two were written in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and some of them (12 Griefs, Poem for Joni Mitchell, & Black Lives Matter, D.C., 2015) have been performed through the D.C. poetry circuit this year.
These recordings only include my voice, no musical accompaniment. It was my intention to showcase the power of one's voice through storytelling. The poems in this album represent my intersectional journey and serve as a prelude to the rest of my exciting projects in 2016.
This entire piece is dedicated to all the trans women of color we've lost.
released December 12, 2015
All poems written, performed, and recorded by Venus Selenite.
